Submissions Are Open for Exhibition 2023: A Modern Quilt Show
Members of Indy MQG and Akoma Ntoso MQG are encouraged to submit QUILTS and QUILTED ITEMS to this year’s show at Garfield Park Art Center, on display July 7–29. The public is clamoring to see our creative output!
STEP #1: Choose which pieces you’d like to have on display. Quilts are the obvious choice but maybe you also make quilted bags, quilted pillows, quilted clothing, etc. Everything* quilted is eligible!
* Items must meet the themes as described: hand-dyed fabrics featured in your piece for the main show or a 17″ x 17″mini quilt with a theme of the number 7 for this year’s mathemagical challenge.
STEP #2: Fill out a submission entry for each exhibit you’d like to have in the show, either by document or electronic form.
STEP #3: Once you have submitted one entry for each of your exhibits, use the dropdown below to submit your payment. The exhibition and public reception are funded by submission fees.
Remember: do not count your mathemagical mini toward your total number of quilts when selecting how many submissions to pay for.
Step #4: Send** photos of your exhibits to exhibition [at] indymqg [dot] com. Nothing fancy! Just something GPAC can use to verify that each piece is appropriate for hanging in a public gallery.
** This isn’t necessary if you uploaded a photo when you completed the electronic submission form.
STEP #5: Put these two dates on your calendar: the First Friday public reception for Exhibition 2023: A Modern Quilt Show on July 7 from 6–9 PM, and the Artist Chat on July 22 at 2:30 PM!
STEP #6: Drop off your submissions at IMQG’s May meeting on May 21, ANMQG’s May meeting on May 28, or May 30 or June 1 at Sacha’s house or Tony Jean’s house.
Exhibition 2022 People’s Choice Winner
The votes are in! There was a three-way tie between MAGNOLIA Mystery Quilt (Marie Harnish), Which Direction Will It Fly? (Marie Harnish) and Scrap Happy Marcelle Medallion (Jane Kaag) for which piece was the crowd’s favorite. Runners up were 7 by Dr. Tony Jean Dickerson and Aurora by Mary Ellen Straughn. Many congratulations, quilters!
Since two of the three top vote-getters were made by the same quilter, she will get the winner’s package: a prize ribbon impeccably made by our very own Jane Kaag, a Sewology quilt compliments of Pen + Paper Designs, and the right to brag about being our inaugural People’s Choice winner. Enjoy, Marie Harnish!
