Fall Retreat 2022

promotional shot of FFA Leadership Center from their website

Our fall retreat is happening September 29 – October 2 at the FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar, Indiana, starting at 9 AM on Thursday and ending at 2 PM on Sunday. We’ll have the entire Fellowship Hall space to ourselves for sewing, socializing, snacks, and shenanigans! There is space for 13 overnighters to have their own beds and 8 single-day retreat-goers on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday.

Please register via PayPal below. Registration is first come, first served, and PayPal is set up to prevent overselling of the available slots. If the retreat is sold out when you try to sign up then you’ll be taken to a waiting list form.

Attendees for the full retreat can participate in the voluntary Snack Swap activity. After submitting your payment, you’ll be taken to a form to sign up for the Snack Swap—details about that swap are included in the form.

June Block Lotto — Ice Pop

3 ice pop blocks on a cutting mat

For our June block we’re making ice pops! We’re celebrating summer with these cool treats. These BIG blocks are really easy to make.

The unfinished block size is 8” x about 18 ½”—the pattern says 18 ¾” but the sample blocks made were closer to 18 ½”. The winner of these blocks will have room to make size adjustments on this block as needed.

Popsicle® is a brand name so we’re aiming to avoid trademark infringement with our terminology.

Follow Sew Yeah’s pattern to make your block(s) using the following guidelines:
— For the ice pop, use three different fabrics in colors of your choice in modern, small-scale prints or solids. Keep an eye on contrast so your sweet treat doesn’t disappear into the background!
— For the stick, use brown or tan.
— For the background, use a cheery yellow in a solid or small-scale print.

For our purposes, please make only the ice pop block with no sashing. The winner will be able to decide what kind/size of sashing to make.

As a reminder, these blocks will be turned in at the July meeting and the lotto is open only to current, paid members.

UPDATED TO ADD: Submissions are now closed. Think about what you want to work on for next year’s show!

Members of Indy MQG and Akoma Ntoso MQG are encouraged to submit QUILTS and QUILTED ITEMS to this year’s show at Garfield Park Art Center, on display July 1–29. The public is clamoring to see our creative output!

STEP #1: Choose which pieces you’d like to have on display. Quilts are the obvious choice but maybe you also make quilted bags, quilted pillows, quilted clothing, etc. Everything quilted is eligible!

Did you make a mini quilt using the IMQG logo colors for last year’s challenge? That’s this year’s challenge too! You are welcome to have it on display again.

Did you make a mini quilt using the IMQG logo colors for this year’s challenge? Great!

STEP #2: Fill out a submission form for each piece you’d like to have in the show. You may have to scroll to see the whole form, FYI.

IMQG MINI QUILT CHALLENGE — You do have to submit a form but you do not have to pay a fee. All challenge quilts that meet the guidelines will automatically be eligible for display pending final approval by Garfield Park Arts Center.

STEP #3: Once you have submitted one form for each of your pieces, use the dropdown below to submit your payment. The exhibition and public reception are funded by submission fees.

Remember: do not count your mini quilt for IMQG’s color challenge toward your total number of quilts when selecting how many submissions to pay for.

Step #4: Send photos of your submitted pieces to exhibition [at] indymqg [dot] com. Nothing fancy! Just something GPAC can use to verify that each piece is appropriate for hanging in a public gallery.

You can send any questions and concerns to that email address too.

STEP #5: Put the public reception for Exhibition 2022: A Modern Quilt Show on your calendar: July 8 from 6–9 PM!

STEP #6: Drop off your submissions at IMQG’s June meeting. Send a message to exhibition [at] indymqg [dot] com to make alternate arrangements if you can’t make it to Eastgate Christian Church on June 11 between 11 AM and 4 PM.
