UPDATE: Alex Miller Reusze won the quilt with a donation to The Humane Society of the United States. There were 180 total entries, which means we raised $900 for various animal rescue organizations. Strong work, everyone!

Each year Indy MQG participates in the QuiltCon Community Outreach Quilt Challenge. For 2022 the theme was angles with a color palette of white, boysenberry, geranium, orange, yellow, and olive. Members of our guild designed, constructed, quilted, and finished this quilt for the challenge.

The goal of the challenge is to raise funds for nonprofit organizations. Indy MQG has chosen animal rescue as this year’s fundraising focus. For every $5 you donate to an animal rescue of your choice, IMQG will give you one chance to win this quilt in a random drawing. Here’s how that will work:

Step #1 — Choose your animal rescue charity!
You can donate to any nonprofit animal rescue organization, whether based in Indiana or not.

Step #2 — Make a donation July 1–29!
Each $5 donation you make during Exhibition 2022: A Modern Quilt Show will earn you a chance to win the IMQG community outreach quilt while also helping an animal rescue organization of your choice! You can make a donation in any amount you choose but chances to win are issued in $5 increments (e.g., $10 donation = 2 chances, $100 donation = 20 chances, etc.). Any processing fees added to the donation do not count toward the total (e.g., $50 donation + $5 fee = 10 chances).

Step #3 — Show us proof of your donation by July 31!
Complete this form with your information, including uploading a photo of your donation receipt. We will register your chance(s) to win in our list of entries.

The random drawing will take place on August 1 and the winner will be notified immediately. Anyone who follows steps #1–3 is eligible to win! IMQG will cover shipping within the United States if local delivery isn’t feasible.

June Block Lotto — Ice Pop

3 ice pop blocks on a cutting mat

For our June block we’re making ice pops! We’re celebrating summer with these cool treats. These BIG blocks are really easy to make.

The unfinished block size is 8” x about 18 ½”—the pattern says 18 ¾” but the sample blocks made were closer to 18 ½”. The winner of these blocks will have room to make size adjustments on this block as needed.

Popsicle® is a brand name so we’re aiming to avoid trademark infringement with our terminology.

Follow Sew Yeah’s pattern to make your block(s) using the following guidelines:
— For the ice pop, use three different fabrics in colors of your choice in modern, small-scale prints or solids. Keep an eye on contrast so your sweet treat doesn’t disappear into the background!
— For the stick, use brown or tan.
— For the background, use a cheery yellow in a solid or small-scale print.

For our purposes, please make only the ice pop block with no sashing. The winner will be able to decide what kind/size of sashing to make.

As a reminder, these blocks will be turned in at the July meeting and the lotto is open only to current, paid members.

UPDATED TO ADD: Submissions are now closed. Think about what you want to work on for next year’s show!

Members of Indy MQG and Akoma Ntoso MQG are encouraged to submit QUILTS and QUILTED ITEMS to this year’s show at Garfield Park Art Center, on display July 1–29. The public is clamoring to see our creative output!

STEP #1: Choose which pieces you’d like to have on display. Quilts are the obvious choice but maybe you also make quilted bags, quilted pillows, quilted clothing, etc. Everything quilted is eligible!

Did you make a mini quilt using the IMQG logo colors for last year’s challenge? That’s this year’s challenge too! You are welcome to have it on display again.

Did you make a mini quilt using the IMQG logo colors for this year’s challenge? Great!

STEP #2: Fill out a submission form for each piece you’d like to have in the show. You may have to scroll to see the whole form, FYI.

IMQG MINI QUILT CHALLENGE — You do have to submit a form but you do not have to pay a fee. All challenge quilts that meet the guidelines will automatically be eligible for display pending final approval by Garfield Park Arts Center.

STEP #3: Once you have submitted one form for each of your pieces, use the dropdown below to submit your payment. The exhibition and public reception are funded by submission fees.

Remember: do not count your mini quilt for IMQG’s color challenge toward your total number of quilts when selecting how many submissions to pay for.

You can send any questions and concerns to that email address too.
