UPDATED TO ADD: Submissions are now closed. Think about what you want to work on for next year’s show!

Members of Indy MQG and Akoma Ntoso MQG are encouraged to submit QUILTS and QUILTED ITEMS to this year’s show at Garfield Park Art Center, on display July 1–29. The public is clamoring to see our creative output!

STEP #1: Choose which pieces you’d like to have on display. Quilts are the obvious choice but maybe you also make quilted bags, quilted pillows, quilted clothing, etc. Everything quilted is eligible!

Did you make a mini quilt using the IMQG logo colors for last year’s challenge? That’s this year’s challenge too! You are welcome to have it on display again.

Did you make a mini quilt using the IMQG logo colors for this year’s challenge? Great!

STEP #2: Fill out a submission form for each piece you’d like to have in the show. You may have to scroll to see the whole form, FYI.

IMQG MINI QUILT CHALLENGE — You do have to submit a form but you do not have to pay a fee. All challenge quilts that meet the guidelines will automatically be eligible for display pending final approval by Garfield Park Arts Center.

STEP #3: Once you have submitted one form for each of your pieces, use the dropdown below to submit your payment. The exhibition and public reception are funded by submission fees.

Remember: do not count your mini quilt for IMQG’s color challenge toward your total number of quilts when selecting how many submissions to pay for.

Step #4: Send photos of your submitted pieces to exhibition [at] indymqg [dot] com. Nothing fancy! Just something GPAC can use to verify that each piece is appropriate for hanging in a public gallery.

You can send any questions and concerns to that email address too.

STEP #5: Put the public reception for Exhibition 2022: A Modern Quilt Show on your calendar: July 8 from 6–9 PM!

STEP #6: Drop off your submissions at IMQG’s June meeting. Send a message to exhibition [at] indymqg [dot] com to make alternate arrangements if you can’t make it to Eastgate Christian Church on June 11 between 11 AM and 4 PM.

May Block Lotto — Plus

example blocks for May's block lotto assignment

For our May block we’re making the ever popular ➕! These blocks are so easy to make—it’s a 9-patch made with 4” blocks, resulting in a 10 ½” finished block. The goal is to get many different colors of pluses so raid those scrap bins!

5 feature squares + 4 background squares = 9 patch ➕

Follow Quilty Love’s Simple Plus Quilt tutorial to make your block(s) using the following guidelines:
— For the plus, use just one color: print or solid, modern fabric as usual.
— For the background, use scrappy, low-volume fabrics.

As a reminder, these blocks will be turned in at the June meeting and the lotto is open only to current, paid members.

COVID Precautions Survey for Members

The IMQG board is reexamining our COVID precautions for in-person meetings.  With vaccinations, masks, and testing as the tools available to prevent the spread of COVID, there are a number of scenarios. We are asking members to let us know via survey which scenarios you would personally be comfortable with for upcoming meetings.

Please note that we will continue to offer virtual meetings in addition to in-person meetings when possible.

We ask that you take the survey by Monday, April 25, so that we have time to tally the results and provide any updates to the membership.
